It is with deep regret and great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Ron Nurse on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010 at the An Cala Unit with his wife and family members by his side.
Born in Montreal, Ron was the son of the late Lionel and Nellie (Lobban) Nurse.
Ron was employed with Bell Canada for 37 years and later was employed with T.W. Curry Funeral Home until his retirement.
Ron was a member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 151, East Bay, and a member of the Masonic Lodge Salaberry. Ron was a volunteer for the Howie Centre Fire Department and a volunteer at the recreation centre in Sydney Forks, where he enjoyed being the bartender.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Thelma (MacMullin) Nurse; his children, Donald ‘Donnie’ (Wendy) Nurse, Chateauguay, Montreal, Kathy (Derrick) Harwood, Mississauga, Sandy (Sean) Kelly, Mississauga; stepchildren, Joey (Ginette) MacInnis, Chateauguay, Montreal, Lisa (Stephan) MacInnis, Candiac, Quebec; his 12 wonderful grandchildren.
Ron is also survived by his sisters, Audrey (Cliff) Tucker, Kelowna, B.C., Carol Kroschel, Nevada; sisters–in-law, Earlene (Bill) Gill, Blacketts Lake, Sandra Long, Sydney, Marilyn MacMullin, Dartmouth; brothers-in-law, Warren (Barb) MacMullin, Meadows Road, Jackson (Susan) MacMullin, Montreal, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Janet (Mein) Nurse; son, Michael Nurse; brother-in-law, Tom Kroschel.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 with Pastor Sheldon Chant officiating.
Reception to follow at the R.C.L. Branch 151, East Bay.
