George J. MacDonald, 94, passed away, peacefully, at the Cove Guest Home, on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his parents, Rod and Catherine ‘Kate’ MacDonald; his brothers, Alec, Neil, Bernie and Pius and sisters, Philomena and Margaret (Butts). He was also predeceased by his wife, Winnie (MacMIllan) and daughter, Sheila (Shepard).
He is survived by his son, Dr. Wayne MacDonald (Susan), Halifax and daughter, Darlene MacDonald (Jim Richardson), Winnipeg. He has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his second wife, Jean MacDonald and her family. He was employed for 45 years at the Sydney Steel Plant working, primarily, in the Open Hearth Department, often with his brothers Neil and Pius. He was a proud Cape Bretoner and a wonderful father; teaching us to have great respect for the other person’s labour. With that in mind he would want us to thank the outstanding staff of the MacGillivary Guest Home (Golden Heights) and the Cove who cared for him over many years. Your kindness and professionalism is very much appreciated.
There will be visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday with Fr. J. Oliver presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory can be made to The Cove Guest Home.
Condolences may be made at TWCurry.com.
