STEELE, C. Russell – Retired teacher at peace at the Carbonear General Hospital on December 24, 2008 of Carbonear, NL, formerly of Northern Bay, NL. Predeceased by parents George and Eva (Sparkes) Steele and brother-in-law Robert Johnson. Lovingly remembered and saddened by his passing are his wife Verna V. (Gillespie), two loving and much loved daughters Elizabeth (David) Clark, Ottawa, ON and Virginia Steele, Carbonear; two grandsons Steven Clark and Christopher Sweetland; survived by sister Florence Johnson, Harbour Lodge, Carbonear; two nieces Marie (Stan) Parsons, Bristol’s Hope and Louise (Frank) Norris, Job’s Cove; nephew David (Roxanne) Johnson, Carbonear; special friends Irving and Clara Wareham, Carbonear; Joe and Sharon Snooks, Victoria, Guy and Margaret Rose Penney, Topsail; kind neighbours Don and Murley Gillespie, Carbonear; former colleagues and students especially those of the Salmon Cove area. Special thanks to the staff of Pentecostal Senior Citizens Home, Clarke’s Beach where he was a resident for two and half years. Rev. Stephen Matthews conducted the funeral service on Saturday, December 27 at Bethany United Church, Carbonear. Interment took place in the Interfaith Cemetery, Carbonear.
