It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
Ralph Gerard Kyte, 89, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 17, 2010, at Taigh Na Mara nursing home.
Born Oct. 27, 1920, on Kyte’s Hill, Grand Lake Road, C.B., Ralph lived most of his life in his family home. He was the youngest son of the late William and Minnie (MacDonald) Kyte.
Ralph was a member of St. Augustine parish.
Ralph was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Cape Breton Highlanders in England, Italy, Holland and France. He was an active lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 138, Ashby. Until his retirement in 1984, he worked at the Sydney Steel Plant for 44 years.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary (Crawley) Kyte; his daughter, Beverley (Darryl) McVarish and their children, Kimberley and Kelley; his son, James (Bernice MacArthur) and their children, Tara (Dwayne) Cross and Whitney, and their grandchildren, Nicole, Brayden and Tyler Cross; his daughter, Donna (Archie) Gillis and their children, Aaron and Janaya; and his daughter, Colleen (Neil) Hooper and their children, Corinne, Kevin and Shawn. He is also survived by his brother, John (Peggy) Kyte; sisters-in-law, Alice and Peggy and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ralph was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Alice, Ed, Birney, Ellen and Charlie.
Ralph and his family are grateful for the kindness and care received from staff of Taigh Na Mara nursing home over the past two years.
