Audrey Olivia Jobling nee: Jacobson
It is with sad hearts that the family of Audrey Jobling bids farewell to our cherished Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother who passed away peacefully in Medicine Hat, Alberta on February 8th at the age of 83 years. She is survived by her sons James(Mary Anne) Jobling of Lundar, Manitoba, Calvin (Amy) Jobling of Medicine Hat and daughter Lael (Brian) Dyck of La Salle, Manitoba; and by her grandchildren: Tony, Caylen, Kristin, Tyler, Stefan, Nicole, Katerina, and Erica As well as two great-grandchildren, Sapphire Olivia and Cameron. Audrey was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Norman. And by her grand-daughter Nancy Jean, daughter Catherine Ann, great-grand-daughter Audrey Elizabeth and Audrey’s older sister Grace, brothers Ron, Allan and sister Dorothy. She is survived by her younger brother Howard (Joy) Jacobson. Audrey was born in Moose Jaw, third child and daughter of Alfred and Eva (Probert) Jacobson. The family first lived on Ominica then later Stadacona Street for many years. In 1937, she, older sister Grace and younger brother Howard, were stricken by typhoid fever. After recovering, Audrey resumed attending Alexander School and Central High School. She was a top student excelling in sports [especially speed skating] and academics. Along with her family she enjoyed attending the Salvation Army church, singing hymns and playing music. She enjoyed helping out at CHAB [the radio station founded by her father] and working at Eaton’s Department Store. Norman first noticed Audrey while skating on the Moose Jaw Creek. He often recalled the outfit she wore that day along with her long-blade ‘racers’. Finally they met a year later while skating at the Moose Jaw Arena, both were completely smitten with each other. After Norman’s WWII service they married and began their life together on SouthHill where they raised a family of four. Idyllic summers were spent at the family cottage on Last Mountain Lake with their grateful children Career advancement took them to other parts of Canada and around the world until retirement to Victoria in 1985. Later they returned home to the prairies in 2000. Audrey’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Hirsch and wonderful staff at Sunnyside Haven Care Centre at South Country Village in Medicine Hat. They took such good care of Audrey in her last years. We will remember their warmth and loving kindness towards Mom. A private family service was held in Moose Jaw, February 13, at W.J. Jones and Sons Funeral Chapel, officiated by Major Don Law of the Salvation Army.
