John D. Doucette, 55, of 5014 Shore Rd. Eskasoni, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at home with his family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Abraham Doucette of Eskasoni and the late Anna Jean (Johnson) Doucette.
He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni.
John was a fisherman by trade who worked for a number of years with Eskasoni Fish & Wildlife. He loved his Harley-Davidson, his mi\'kmaq culture and language, sports and had been an excellent baseball catcher in his youth.
He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Martin; five daughters, Kirby, Millyanna, Sharon, Stacey, all of Eskasoni, Sunshine, Millbrook, N.S.; two sons, Norman and John Duncan Jr., both of Eskasoni; eight grandchildren, Shanelle, Tahnee, Hannah, Jesse James, Dru, Miah, John Gerard, Brayce; one great-granddaughter, Ameliyah; three brothers, Vernon (Norma), Lawrence, both of Eskasoni, Terry Paul (Anna), Shubenacadie; three sisters, Pam, Iris, Gail (Darren), all of Eskasoni and also by his large and loving extended family, including his godchildren.
John was predeceased by son, John Gerard, daughter, Mariah and brothers, Keith and Norman ‘Inky’.
Visitation for the late John Doucette will take place on Monday, Feb. 22 after 7 p.m. at 5014 Shore Rd., Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
