The death occurred at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, of John Nevin MacTaggart of Travellers Rest, P.E.I., age 85 years. Veteran of the Second World War.
John was born on September 7, 1924, in Truro, N.S., to his late parents, John and Edith MacTaggart. Beloved husband of the late Laurie (nee Foster) MacTaggart and loving father of Terry (Louise) of Travellers Rest and John (Seble) of Maple, Ontario. Survived by his sister, Pat Loring, of Saint John, N.B. Also lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren, Scott (Mark), Rachell (Chris) Willcock, John Ryan, Nathan, Matty and Noah; his great-grandson, Daniel Willcock; his step grandchildren, Tina (Evan) Bernard of Springhill, P.E.I., and Grant (Margaret) Morrell of Riverview, N.B.; and his two step great-grandchildren, Darren Greenslade and Keisha Arsenault. Besides his parents and his wife, John was predeceased by sisters, Norm Mason and Moi Fraser.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, until Sunday, Feb. 21, for visiting hours 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. By personal request, there will be no funeral service held. A committal service will take place at People’s Cemetery, Summerside, at a later date.
Memorial donations in John’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Prince County Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
A service of remembrance will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening at 6:45 p.m. by members of the George R. Pearkes, V.C. Branch # 5, Royal Canadian Legion, Summerside.
