Margaret Bennett
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Alice Bennett of South Street, Glace Bay and a recent resident of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay. Margaret passed away on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Margaret was the daughter of the late James G. and Mary Agnes (MacDougall) Bennett of New Aberdeen. She was a life long member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay and a former member of the Senior Guild. Margaret was employed at Eaton’s, H & R Block and Bay Medical Clinic over the years.
Margaret is survived by son, Kirk (D.J. Walling), Glace Bay; granddaughter, Tamara, Ottawa; sister-in-law, Mary Shepherd, Glace Bay and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John; brothers, Grant, James and Douglas; sisters, Bessie, Helen, Catherine, Gladys, Edith and a sister-in-law, Mattie MacDougall.
Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In honouring Margaret’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2010 at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay with the Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the church foyer.
Donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Memorial Fund or a favorite charity.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
