It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. John MacAdam age 95 passed away on Friday morning, Feb. 19, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Reserve Mines.
John was born on Sept. 21, 1914 at MacAdam’s Lake, Northside, East Bay, Cape Breton. He was the second oldest of the late Duncan and Margaret Jane (Gillis) MacAdam.
John was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Main Street, Reserve Mines. Until his retirement in 1978, he worked in the blast furnace department at Sydney Steel for 37 years.
John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary (MacNeil) MacAdam; his daughters, Maureen (Doug) McDonald, Calgary, Alta. and their three children, Glenn, Alanna and Lois; Jean, Calgary, Alta. and Cathy at home; sons, James, Glace Bay, Bernard, Thorold, Ont. and Gerard (Gloria), Sydney, N.S. He is also survived by a brother, Angus Steve (Florence), Dartmouth, N.S. and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Isabel, Ronald James, Archie, James, Donald (Dannie) and Mary Agnes.
Visitation for John MacAdam will be held Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Church, Main Street, Reserve Mines with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
