Roberta Joan (Logie) Taylor - with sadness, the family of Roberta Joan Taylor wish to announce her passing at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home on Friday, February 19, 2010. Born in Saint John on March 15, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Dr. A.E. Logie and Mabel (Ripley) Logie. She loved the Arts, playing the piano, teaching dance, and fostering the artistic expression of her children and grandchildren.
During wartime she ran a successful ballroom dancing studio in Saint John for service-men, among others. A natural athlete, she loved tennis, diving, and swimming, which she in turn taught her children and grandchildren. A skilled administrator, she helped established the NB Heart Foundation (Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada), where she worked for 20 years. During this period she was a long-time devoted member of the Women\'s Symphony Association. In her retirement, she contributed to the Fredericton community through volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, Community Kitchen, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation campaigns. All who knew her were delighted by her infectious sense of humor, unflagging concern for the welfare of others, and social gifts.
She is survived by daughters, Diana Webster , and Gail Taylor, both of Saint John; grandchildren, Eric Webster, of Saint John, Ellen Webster, of Hampton, Eve Webster, of Halifax, Portia Taylor, of Ottawa, and Amy Munnikhuis, of Calgary; son-in-law, George Bates, of Calgary; five great grandchildren; and beloved nieces and nephews, close bereaved friends include Elizabeth (Libby) Lowe, Nancy Salmon, and Jean Anderson.
She was predeceased by her husband F.M.G. (Jim) Taylor, her daughter, Pamela (Taylor) Bates; her sister Gloria Hollies; and brothers, Donald and Glen Logie. Our heartfelt and humble thanks for outstanding care provided by the staff at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home, whose kind counsel and skill were sources of great comfort.
The funeral service will be held at Fitzaptrick\'s Funeral Home; 100 waterloo St. Saint John, on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:30 AM followed by interment at Fernhill Cemetery and a reception at Centenary Queens Square United Church, 215 Wentworth St. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (www.heartandstroke.com), Centenary Queen Square United Church (www.cqunited.ca); and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada Atlantic Division, (www.mssociety.ca/atlantic/default.htm).
