Our father, Opa, brother and uncle passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, in the Glace Bay Hospital following loving care in Victoria Haven where he lived for the last two years.
Albert was a gentleman and a gentle man. He enjoyed a good debate and many of the world’s problems were solved over 30 years in his tailor shop on MacLean Street. He loved his native Austria. He came to Canada in 1957 with his loving wife, Mitzi (Maria Tertsch) who predeceased him in 2001. Also predeceased by his son, Rudi Grubhofer, Linz, Austria, his sister, Gertrude, his brothers, Andreas and Dr. Otto.
He is survived by a brother, Walter, Waidhofen, Austria; sons, Horst (Shirley), Glace Bay, Walter (Wanda) Sydney and daughter, Eva (Gary Brien), Fall River.
His wonderful sense of humour will be missed by his grandchildren, Mellita, Melissa, Jessica, Shawn, Brandon, Martin and Adam, as well as his great-grandchildren, Taylor, Piper and Mattias. Albert’s nieces, nephews, family and friends will remember him for his generosity and ability to make them laugh.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. To honour his wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Glace Bay at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery followed by a reception in the church foyer.
