Stella Peckham
ELMFIELD – Stella Marie Peckham, 63, of Elmfield, Pictou County, passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital on Sunday, February 21, 2010 surrounded by her family.
Born in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Martha (Cheverie) Thorne.
Stella worked at the Shiretown Nursing home as a PCW and at the Maritime Oddfellows Home as a Recreation Director. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her gardens, and was family oriented as her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is survived by her husband of over 46 years, Ralph; daughters, Jo-Anne Peckham (Rick Lewis), Halifax; Tammy (Stephen) McDonald, Lower Sackville; grandchildren: Alicia, Andrew, Brianna, and Emily; sisters, Frances Canning, Theresa (Percy) Steele; brother, Robert (Anne) Thorne; sisters-in-law: Brenda Thorne, Audrey Sutherland, Karen Weston, Sheila Peckham.
She was predeceased by brothers: Clifford, Willie, Walter, Clarence, Raymond; brothers-in-law, John Canning, Ralph Sutherland; sisters-in-law, Yvette Thorne and Irene Thorne.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Stella Maris Church Hall.
Donations in Stella’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society. The family wishes to thank Dr. Farrell and the Palliative Care Nursing Team for all their support.
