It is with broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, nanny and sister, Theresa, on Aug. 22, 2014 at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Florence, C.B., she was the daughter of the late Simon and Sarah (Boutilier) Rasmussen.
She is survived by her devoted daughter. Sarah; stepdaughters, Shirley and Gladys (Ronnie); stepson, Bill (Cheryl) and daughter-in-law, Gloria. Her brother, Louis, and baby brother, Stephen (Mary); her sisters, Anne Glidden, Jennie Mann, Lottie Walsh and Sylvia Porter (Chuck); 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Banfield; her first born, Mary in infancy; son, Steven Whitty; sons-in-law, Dennis Murphy and Alex Minifile. The father of her children, Raymond Whitty; brothers, Percy, Joe, Harold; sisters, Mary Sampson, Viola Jessome and Thelma Blinkhorn; great-grandson, Andrew.
We would like to thank the staff of Buchanan Memorial Hospital and the Home Support Ladies for all they have done.
Nanny will always be remembered for having treats for her great-grandchildren.
Her faith in the Lord is what kept her going strong and helped her overcome very many hard obstacles in her lifetime.
A visitation will be held today (Monday, Aug. 25, 2014) at 10 a.m., with celebration of her life to follow at 11 a.m., both in St. Peters Church, Ingonish. With Fr. Lazarus Guria officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Buchanan Memorial Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.
