Mellie GEORGE
GEORGE, W. A. M. “Mellie”
Pictou
December 19, 1944 - August 22, 2014
After a very brief battle with cancer, Mellie passed away peacefully, Friday, August 22, 2014 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his family by his side. Raised in Pictou, he was the son of the late Harvey and Margaret (Langille) George. Mellie was a pipefitter by trade and worked for Ferguson Industries, Pictou Industries and Aecon Group. Being a member of the 244 Antigonish Union also brought him employment with various businesses throughout the county, including Michelin, Nova Scotia Power, Northern Pulp and Trenton Works. Wherever there was work, Mellie was willing. When he wasn’t working he was spending his time at Tim Horton’s, fishing on the wharf, or on the golf course. His passion for golf was something that he had since he was a child and if you ask anyone, he was a pretty good golfer too. He was club and senior champion in Pictou several times. Mellie accomplished a hole-in-one at both Pictou and Abercrombie Courses. Even though his daughters didn’t take up the sport, they enjoyed watching the PGA with him on the weekends. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, AnneMarie; daughters, Lisa, Pictou and Wendy (Ashley Murray), Bible Hill; sister-in-law, Barb Murray, Pictou; and brother-in-law, Don MacDonald (Ria), Trenton, 4 nieces, 2 nephews, 5 great nieces and 2 great nephews. Our gratitude goes out to Dr. Farrell and the palliative staff for the wonderful care they gave Mellie during his short stay. No visitation or funeral service by request of the deceased. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society. Arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.
