It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, brother and friend, Ernie Garnier on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014 at Taigh Solas in the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Alexander and Margaret (Poole) Garnier.
Ernie had been employed as a cook for a number of years. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. Ernie was an active member of the AA movement for over 45 years. He travelled around industrial Cape Breton helping as many people as he could and was very proud of his 33 years of sobriety. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ernie is survived by his daughter, Josie (Chris) Harvey of Alder Point; his granddaughters, Brianna and Jenna; three brothers, Vince (Sharon), Paul (Mary) both in North Sydney and Alex, Ontario, several nieces and nephews and also by his good friend, Shirley.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Slade and Kathleen in infancy and his infant brothers, Alex and Ernie Joseph.
Visitation for Ernie will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
