Doreen Mary Fitzpatrick of St. John's passed away Monday, September 8, after an extended illness. She was 87. Doreen was born Doreen Dunphy in Petries, NL, and received her early education there and in Curling. She was a graduate of Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. Doreen lived most of her adult life in Corner Brook and St. John's. She traveled extensively, enjoyed her family and friends, and followed her many interests that included the Newfoundland and Labrador Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society, painting, and playing her piano. She is survived by her daughters Nora and Sheila and sons Peter and John; her grandchildren, Jennifer FitzPatrick and Robin Crocker; her sister Isobel and her brother Ray, as well as daughter-in-law Beulah FitzPatrick and son-in-law Ron Crocker. She will be remembered fondly by her dear friend, Aiden Maloney. Doreen was predeceased by her husband, Fred FitzPatrick, Q.C., in 1980; by her parents, Isabella and Alexander Dunphy; by her sisters, Phyllis, Sheila and Maureen, and by brothers Tom, Ron, Alex, and John. The FitzPatrick family is grateful to the many health care and social services workers who assisted during Doreen's final months at Cambridge Estates, the Health Sciences Hospital, and the Holes - Escasoni Residences. Carnell's Funeral Home has provided cremation and related services. At a future date, Doreen's grandchildren Jennifer and Robin will invite relatives and friends to a memorial service, where Doreen's kindness, keen sense of humour and many other virtues will be celebrated.
