Passed on: August 29th, 2014

MATHESON, Donald Perry, 83, of North West Harbour passed away at home on Friday, August 29, 2014. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts he was a son of the late Fulton and Myrtle Matheson. Donald was a grand captain, lobstering / fishing and an avid hunter. He loved having his grandchildren around, always asking how they are doing. He enjoyed his pet cats, Tinker, Koda and dog Josie who received many treats. He also enjoyed classic country music, playing cards, watching TV game shows, feeding birds, gardening, evening visits from Phillip and to quietly sit gazing at the tranquility of the harbour. He would often speak and joke about happenings of years ago, especially about the shark he caught in the mackerel net and jokingly said he caught it on a trout pole. His sense of humor along with the tendency to tease will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by daughters, Karen Matheson Boucher (Ted Campbell), N.B; Cynthia “Cyndi” Matheson (Manus Hemeon), Shelburne; sons, Robert Matheson (Darlene Carver), Halifax; David Matheson, Shelburne; brother, Fulton Matheson; grandchildren, Candice (great grandson Jaxzen), Andrew, Kyle, Erik, Justin, Hillary and Olivia. He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Dorothy (Matheson) Swimm. At the request of Donald there will be no visitation or service. A private family gathering and interment will take place at a later date. The family would like to express exceptional thanks to Manus, the Harbour Fire Department, and ambulance attendants for their compassionate care of our father. Memorial donations may be made to the Harbour Fire Department, 5880 Shore Rd. RR#3 Shelburne, N.S B0T1W0.
