Swift (Geldart), Ruth Christine - 68 of Westport, Digby Co., passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2014 in Digby General Hospital with her loving husband by her side. Born August 22nd, 1946 in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the George “Otty” and the late Grace (Sprague) Geldart. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband, Keith; her daughter, Stacy, Freeport; sister, Marilyn (Jack) Miramichi; step-sister, Audrey; step-daughter, Melanie, Winnipeg; grandchildren, Arianna, Brock, Freeport, step-grandchildren, Adam, Dean, Calgary, Mackenzie, Calgary, Keith, Neil, Eric, Katelyn, Winnipeg; step-sons, Kerry (Cathy), Calgary, Darren, Calgary, Scott (Kerry), Vancouver; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by her brothers, George, Ralph; sisters, Bernice, Charlotte. Ruth worked at various jobs during her early years, until she decided to go back to school to obtain her grade 12 and later entered Red River Community College, obtaining her LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) designation and then applied her skills in various nursing homes. She worked in the Deere Lodge Centre, finally retiring after a number of years and moving to Westport. Ruth was a member of the Westport Super Seniors Club where she loved to play pool and cribbage. While at home it was baseball and golf on television, she enjoyed watching. Her two boys at home, Buddy and P.J. were her pride and joy, always seeing that they had their yogurt for breakfast and treats at supper time. Ruth was known for her friendly and kind character and loved to stop and chat with her friends. She and Keith also enjoyed attending Westport Baptist Church. Cremation has taken place. There is no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday September 22nd in the Westport United Baptist Church, Westport, Reverend David Ingersoll officiating. A reception will follow in the community center hall. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, Coldbrook Chapel, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook, (902-679-2822). The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the VON, Home Care, the Doctors and staff of Digby General Hospital, 2nd floor medical. Special thanks to good friends, Janette Denton, Doris Calder and nephew, Peter Titus. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Westport United Baptist Church, Westport, Canadian Cancer Society, The Lodge That Gives, Halifax or charity of choice.
