DAWSON, JOHN "ED" - With family at his side, John “Ed” Edward Dawson passed away peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1926 in Saint John he was the son of the late John Edward and Edna May (Verrill) Dawson. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Madore) Dawson; son Douglas Wayne Dawson; daughter Diane Gianakos; sister Edna “Anna” Armstrong; brothers Lester, Harry and Jimmy. Ed was a Veteran of WWII serving with RCNVR. He worked for the ILA 273 as a Stevedore in the Navy for 40 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ed was a family man, he enjoyed spending time with his family and was very proud of each one of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sons Kevin Dawson (Yvonne) of Dartmouth, NS and Jeffrey Gianokas (Gail) of Saint John; daughters Wendy James (Peter) and Judy Dawson of Saint John; brother Bud Dawson (Margaret) of Alberta; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, visitations will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Thursday, September 25 from 11 am to 1 p.m. A tribute to a Veteran service will start at 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
