HURLEY, MARIE LOUISE - November 28, 1939 - September 23, 2014 -
Marie Hurley (nee Guest) died peacefully in the company of her family at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Marie was born to Leo and Florence Guest in Bath, NB, and raised on the Guest Farm in neighbouring Holmesville, NB. Marie is pre-deceased by Peter Hurley of Miramichi, NB and by two sisters: Anna Guest and Frances Hurley (Ray). She is survived by three sisters: Theresa Pickard (Clarence) and Carmel Pickard (Greg) of Holmesville, NB, and Sister Monica Guest (SCIC) of Vancouver, BC; and two brothers: Edwin Guest (Joyce) of Hartland, NB and Simon Guest (Judy) of Holmesville, NB. She leaves her daughters Mary Lou Hurley (David Pappin) of Vancouver, BC, Annie Koppens (Mike) of Pembroke, ON and son Sean Hurley (Joanna Bull) of Toronto, ON.Marie is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and three wonderful grandchildren: Noah Koppens of Pembroke and Elliot and Margot Hurley of Toronto. Formerly Sister Edwin of the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception (New Brunswick), Marie taught school for nearly three decades, including more than a decade at Mackenzie High School in Deep River, ON. Marie was a resident of Deep River, ON and the Ottawa Valley for 40 years. Marie was passionate about volunteer service and an active volunteer in every community in which she lived. Marie achieved sobriety through the Alcoholics Anonymous program. The support and friendship of the AA community were fundamental to Marie’s life. Marie’s sobriety and service to the AA community made her family enormously proud. We love you forever.
The family will receive visitors at the Valley Funeral Home, Deep River on Friday, September 26 from 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pembroke on Saturday, September 27 at 10:30 am. Interment of cremated remains will be in the Deep River Community Cemetery. In memoriam donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated.
