Passed in: North Sydney
Passed on: September 23rd, 2014
Evelyn Eileen Pye, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at the Northside Guest Home.
She was the daughter of the late Annie and George Hilliard of Florence.
Mom was devoted to her husband and children. In her youth, she was an accomplished seamstress, designing her own patterns. She had a lovely singing voice. She loved baking with her mother, our Granny Hilliard. She spent joyful hours knitting, crocheting, rug hooking, quilting, gardening, and in later years, fishing with Dad. She was good at them all, and then some. Her grandchildren adored her, and she was fondly known as Granny Pye to them, and others.
She is survived by daughters, Hannah Thompson, Halifax; Evelyn (Blain) Barrie. Halifax; Jacqueline Murphy, North Sydney; Doreen (Dave) Charman, Halifax and Lana (Vincent) Pettipas, Dartmouth; sons, Herbert (Pam), Florence; Silby (Edith), Kingston; Victor (Donna), Halifax; Robert (Heather), Sydney; Richard, Dartmouth and Spencer (Lorraine), Toronto; 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are her sisters, Georgina Decoste and Alice Dunphy; sisters-in-law, Annie Snow, Alleine Dove, Sarah Pye and Jean Gillan and brother-in-law, Charles Pye.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John William Pye in 1999; infant children Johnny and Patricia; grandson, Herbie Pye; sisters, Willena, Edna and Jeanette and brothers, Patrick, Raymond, Harry, Leslie, Silby and Daniel.
The family wishes to thank the Northside Guest Home for the many wonderful caregivers, and all the great food Mum enjoyed there. Special thanks to our brother Herb, who was there for Mum until his own health failed; Richard, who was in constant contact with her, Bobby and Heather, and our sister Jackie, who was her help and close companion to the very end.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Brenda Drake officiating.
