It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Julia Pyke, on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late George and Ada May (Hare) Roberts.
Julia had been a longtime resident of Brook Street in North Sydney. She was a strong, independent woman which allowed her to live on her own until recently, when she moved to My Cape Breton Home in North Sydney.
Julia had tremendous faith and her church was an important part of her life. She was a devoted and active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in North Sydney and held various offices within it over the years.
Julia is survived by her three daughters, June Meeks of Takoma Park, Maryland, Joan Wilson and Phyllis Simons, both of Silver Spring, Maryland; by her five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth Osmond of Halifax; her special nieces and nephew, Eileen Crews, Edward and Kay Skinner, Stelburne Gillan, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Willard Pyke, her brothers, Joseph, Rupert, William, James (Jim) and sister, Mary Gillan.
The family would like to take this opportunity to express their thanks to Dr. Paul Hickey for his long, continuous, loving care of 'Aunt Julia', also, to the staff of My Cape Breton Home, as well as 5 East and 4 West of the Northside General Hospital, for the care and compassion shown to Julia.
Visitation for Julia will be held Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor David Striefling officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church Memorial Fund or any charity.
