It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Florence Lake (nee Jarvis) aged 86 on October 7, 2014, after a brief illness. She is predeceased by her oldest son Norbert and her parents William and Frances Jarvis. Mary leaves behind her devoted husband of 64 years Bill, her children Barbara (Fred Harris), Dan (Leona), Maurice (Debbie), Douglas, Hugh (Elaine), Billie, Juanita (Brian Dinn), Rosemary (Thom Vysohlid), daughter in-law Pauline, 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, as well as a dear circle of friends and relatives. Mary's life began on the island of Oderin in Placentia Bay, where she married her childhood friend Bill and started her career as a teacher. After resettlement, their journey took them to St. John's where they raised their family. From painter to parent, Mary expressed her love of life and instilled her values in her own children, as well as all those she taught. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as we strive to be all this great women was. Resting at Cauls Funeral Home on Thursday, October 9, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Mass to follow on Friday, October 10 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa's on Mundy Pond Road. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations can be made in her memory to the Bliss Murphy Cancer Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Special thanks to the amazing staff at Admiral's Coast Retirement Centre for their dedicated care of our mother. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Health Sciences' emergency department for making our mother's last few days as peaceful as possible.
