It’s with saddened hearts that we regret to announce the passing of Russell Crews, on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Alexander and Elsie (Hiller) Crews.
After retiring from the taxi business, he enjoyed many hours at the walking track and the mall until his illness took his leg, then he spent many leisure hours on his scooter.
Left to mourn Russell are his children, sons, Robert, North Sydney, Gordon (Della Hollingsworth), Scarborough, Ont., Russell (Monica Guatam), Georgetown, Ont.; daughters, Lori (Meech Rambeau), North Sydney, Wilma (Ken) Mcconnachie, Whitby, Ont.; grandchildren, William Crews (Rachael), Dartmouth, Amanda Crews (Dave), Scarborough, Ont., Quinn and Jackson Mcconnachie, Whitby, Ont., Maya and Logan Crews, Georgetown, Ont.; great-granddaughter, Melody Rose Crews, Dartmouth; sister, Shirley (Bob) Whitman, Toronto, Ont. and brother, Gordon (Irene) Crews, Niagara Falls, Ont.
Besides his parents, Russell was predeceased by his wife, Wilma Maxwell, on May 18, 2007, brothers, George, Louis, Alexander, William and sisters, Martha, Myra , Sue and Emma.
At this time the family would like to thank Dr. William MacDonald and the staff of 4 west of the Northside General Hospital for their care and kindness for the last couple of months. We would also like to thank Northside Homecare and VON for their care and services over the past eight years with our father. Also we wish to thank Palliative Care for their kindness, your little bouquets of flowers every week, meant the world to dad.
Cremation has taken place; there will be no visitation as per Russell’s requests and burial will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
