Passed on: September 29th, 2014
HANSON – James “Gary” born Aug 6, 1938, in Swift Current, SK, passed away peacefully Sept 29, 2014, in Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK at the age of 76. Gary’s life was celebrated at First United Church in Knox Hall Oct 3, 2014, with Rev Annette Taylor officiating. Gary is survived by his brothers; Carl Hanson, Trev Hanson, Terry (Rosa) Hanson, Garnie (Corinne) Hanson; sister Sharon (Ron) Nybo; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. Gary was predeceased by his parents Morris and Pearl Hanson; brother Howard Hanson; and sister-in-law Carol Ann Hanson. Gary enjoyed many sports like curling and fast ball in his younger years. His favourite hobby was fishing, and especially loved joking around with his brothers about who caught the biggest or the most fish. He taught junior sportsman with the 4H Burnham Club teaching young men outdoor skills and the beauty of nature. He loved jam sessions and played “the bones”. Anyone who knew Gary - knew that he usually had a set of “bones” in his pocket and would take them out at a moment’s notice. We heard on many occasions that he was the best that anyone had heard; he could even play a set in each hand. As a young man he worked with the PFRA as a field technician for several years until an unfortunate car accident that made him change careers. He then worked on the family farm for several years and loved being on the land. He then worked at Anderson Appliance working on small appliances. Gary was very mechanically inclined and loved working in the shop - could fix almost anything that needed to be repaired. Once again an unfortunate accident forced him to change occupations becoming an employee with the Royal Canadian Legion. He was also a member of the Elks Club, where he served in the capacity of Chaplain and other stations including Exalted Ruler. He was our Big Brother; our Best Friend; and no words will ever express how much we will miss him. For further information or to sign the family book of condolence, visit parksidefuneralhome.com.
