John Murray

MURRAY, JOHN ALEXANDER - 1931 - 2014 - Moncton, NB - John Murray, 82, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre, Moncton, on Monday, October 20th, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Born in Saint-Romuald, QC, John was the son of the late Alex and the late Ruth Murray (nee Marsh). After graduating Stanstead College in Quebec and attending the University of New Brunswick, he had a long and successful career as an Industrial Sales Representative which provided him the opportunity to both travel and live in many parts of the country. A resident of Burlington, Ontario for many years, he and his beloved wife of 52 years, Alma (nee McKenzie) returned to Moncton where they have lived the last 25 years. John was an accomplished athlete in his youth and discovered his talent for woodcarving in his later years. He created countless beautiful carved birds which will provide his family and friends with a permanent reminder of his artistry and love of nature. In addition to his wife Alma, John is survived by his three children, son, Greg Murray (Lois) of Lower Sackville, NS; daughters, Laura Murray of Mississauga, ON, and Ellen Murray of Moncton, NB; as well as his granddaughter, Erin Murray of Halifax, NS; his two sisters, Catherine “Tatin” Sewell (Ian) of Collingwood, ON, and Lorna Beverly (late John) of Toronto, ON. John is also survived by several nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his brother, Andy (late Evelyn).
Visitation will be held at Passage Funeral Chapel, 625 Mountain Road, Moncton on Monday, October 27th, 2014 from 10:00 am till the time of the service. Funeral service will be held from Passage Funeral Chapel at 11:00am. Donations to Hospice Greater Moncton or to the CHU Dumont Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
