New Glasgow - Muriel Susan “Dade” MacKay, age 94, of the Glen Haven Manor, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014 in the Manor.
Born in Abercrombie, she was a daughter of the late James William and Margaret Jane (Wheeler) Carroll. She went to work at the MacKay farm at age 15 where she met and married Bert MacKay. She resided in that same house on Beech Street, until moving to Glen Haven. She was a member of Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. She was an avid card player and loved to do the hot polka.
She is survived by a daughter, Glenda Cameron; grandchildren: Evan and Lily, all of Kitimat, BC; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Albert “Bert” MacKay; sisters: Maye MacDonald, Edna “Tooke” Were, Jessie Sinclair, Helen McInnis and Nancy Turner; brothers: Leland “Peachie”, Lawrence, Weldon, Clarence “Dood”, Earl and Bob; sister-in-law, Grace MacKay; brothers-in-law: Cam, Andy and Henry.
The family wish to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Glen Haven Manor for the care and kindness shown to Muriel. Visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Burial will be in Lorne Street Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Glen Haven Manor Recreation Fund or Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
