Gordon Thompson

WESTVILLE -Gordon Campbell Thompson age 88, of Westville passed away November 10, surrounded by family in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Westville, on June 5, 1926, he was the son of Hiram and Hazel (Morrison)Thompson.
He was a member of the Masonic Western Star Lodge #50 , the Westville Chapter No. 24 Order of Eastern Star Lodge and a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Westville. He served in the Royal Canadian Artillery from January 1945 to June 1946. After the War, he taught at the Maritime Business College then found great pleasure working in his chosen field as an accountant at Tibbetts Paints, Eastern Woodworkers & Manufacturing, New Glasgow and then retiring from the North Shore Drug Dependency Center in Pictou. Dad took great pride in his work, and always had special regard for his coworkers. His favourite place to be was at home in Westville and working in the yard with mom, gardening, cutting the grass and preparing the gardens for flowers and vegetables. He appreciated his neighbourhood and commented many times, “how lucky we are to have such good neighbours”. Dad loved and supported his family and enjoyed keeping tabs on his nieces and nephews. Gramps was blessed to have four wonderful grandsons and one great grandson.
He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Thompson, Pictou; Margaret MacLean, Westville and Maureen Thompson, New Glasgow; grandsons, Christopher, Mark, Evan and Dylan and great grandson, Elijah; sons-in-law Donald MacLean and Jock MacKay; brothers, Kelvin Thompson, New Market, Ont.; Wilfred (Evelyn) Thompson, Port Hawkesbury; Gerald Thompson, New Glasgow; Jean Ross, Westville, Dr. Shirley Thompson, St. John’s Nfld.; brothers-in-law Burton (Joyce) Findlay, Lorne, Milton (Catherine) Findlay, Lorne; sister-in-law Elaine(Dara) Rector, Moncton, NB; sister-in-law Ann MacDonald and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews in Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario.
He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn Jean (Findlay) Thompson ; brother Warren (Robina) Thompson; brother John Thompson; sister Helen Elizabeth Thompson; sister-in-law, Katherine Thompson; brothers-in-law Elmer (Joyce) Findlay, and Sandy MacDonald.
A private family service will be held at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville on Saturday, November 15, 2014. Burial will be in the Lorne Cemetery, Lorne. Following the interment, friends and family are invited to public reception at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Hall, Westville at 2:00 p.m. Donations in Gordon’s memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. www.eaglesfuneralhome.ca
