It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving father and grandfather, Annuncio ‘Nunzi’ Diflavio on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, in palliative care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Pietralta, Italy, Annuncio immigrated to Canada in 1955 with his family.
Nunzi, as he liked to be called, was an active member of the Whitney Pier Italian Association for many years. He worked in construction most of his life and also owned and operated Nunzi Pizza in Whitney Pier. Nunzi will be remembered by family and friends for being an overall ‘nice guy’.
Nunzi was predeceased by his father, Luca, mother, Clementdina, daughter, Patricia, daughter-in-law, Charlene and his wife, Frances.
Left to mourn Nunzi, are his children, Luke, Tony, Joey, Fina and Mary; sister, Nancy (Quinto); niece, Anna; nephew, John, Ontario; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation for the late Annuncio ‘Nunzi’ Diflavio will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Nunzi may be made to Hospice Palliative Society of Cape Breton County or charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
