Rita Young
YOUNG, RITA - 1930 - 2014 - We are sad to announce that Rita Young, of Dieppe, (née Boudreau), passed away on Monday, November 17, at the age of 84. Born in Gayton, in the Memramcook Valley, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey Boudreau and the late Marguerite Léger. She is survived by four children, Francis, Huguette (Edison Stewart), Simonne (Léon Bourque) and Lucille (Denis Bernier) and six grandchildren: Marielle, Christian, André, Marcel, Justin and Anika. She was predeceased by her husband, Aurèle, in 2002, and her brother, Émery Boudreau, in 2005. There was always a sparkle in Rita Young’s eyes. Curious by nature, it was no surprise that she chose teaching as a profession, a passion she entertained all her life. She started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Gayton, at the age of 17. Education was a lifelong interest and a value she shared with her husband, professor Aurèle Young from the Université de Moncton. She fulfilled a dream when she obtained two B.A. degrees, the first one in elementary teaching, the second, in education. But her first priority was always the family. She was a devoted mother all her life, taking interest in our dreams, ambitions and trials and tribulations. Our mother was a patient, optimistic person, a feat for someone who had lost her father to tuberculosis at a young age, her sisters Rita and Hermance, and her brother Léonard. If there is one word that describes our mother, it is her kindness. We will miss her enormously.
Visitation will be held at the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault St. in Dieppe (857-1901) www.chartersville.com on Thursday, November 20, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and Friday, at 9:30 am. Funeral service will be celebrated at the Chartersville Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 21, at 10:30 am. Donations to the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital Foundation appreciated.
