It is with profound sadness that Mary’s family announce the news of her passing. Mary’s life embodied the essence of the word nurturing, so it comforts her family no end that we were able to spend the last week of her life together, laughing, crying, loving and reminiscing. Mary leaves behind her husband Barry, her daughters Gillian and Stephanie and son Lyndon, and six beautiful grandsons, all of whom adored her.
Born and raised as a Yorkshire lass, she was at heart a wondering spirit, always drawn towards caring for those who needed her the most. Her Canadian grandsons came first, so to Canada she came, in 1996, where she and Barry built a fulfilling life in the welcoming community of Pender Harbour. Never one to be in the spotlight, Mary quietly worked her beautiful magic on everyone she met. In the words of Maya Angelou, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
All are welcome to share in a celebration of Mary’s life to be held on Friday, November 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Pender Harbour Music School.
In lieu of flowers, there will be an opportunity to make a donation to the RSPB’s bird sanctuary at Loch Gruinart, Islay, Scotland, which was a place very dear to Mary’s heart, where she often volunteered and felt so much at home.
