Peggy Stephenson

STEPHENSON, MARGARET (PEGGY) GILMOUR - Peggy Stephenson, born in Saint John, NB in 1935, longtime resident of Westfield, died in Palliative care at the Saint John Regional Hospital on November 26th 2014. She is survived by one sister, Claire G. Fidler, London, ON; two brothers-in-law, Duncan Fidler and Robert Benn; one niece, Tara Fidler (Andrew Jeffrey); and nephews, Stephen and Jeffrey (Chris) Fidler, Peter (Jennie), David (Jill), and Andrew (Csilla) Benn; two grand-nephews, Patrick Fidler and Charlie Benn, and one grand-niece Anna Benn. Peggy is predeceased by her parents, Alfred E. & Margaret Jenks (Gilmour) Stephenson; sisters, Nancy G. Benn and Helen G. Stephenson. Peggy attended Mount Allison University for one year and was a graduate of the Montreal General Hospital and McGill University (RN, BN). She was an employee of the Provincial Hospital--Centracare, Saint John General Hospital and the Saint John Regional Hospital. Peggy was actively involved in Centenary-Queen Square United Church, NB Registered Nurses Association, Board of Trustees of Centracare, Westfield Golf & Country Club, Crane Mountain Enhancement Committee, Meals on Wheels, Kidney Foundation. Peggy loved golfing, hiking, singing, travelling and being mistress of 5 Welsh corgis over many years. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at SJRH (specifically Palliative care) and St. Joseph’s Hospital as well as Extramural New Brunswick.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Stevenson on Wednesday December 3rd 2014 at 11:00am at Westfield United Church, 133 Nerepis Road, Grand Bay-Westfield, NB (506-757-2201) with visiting in the church at 10:00am and a reception to follow also at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Westfield United Church or to Helen Stephenson Memorial Mind Care Endowment Fund c/o Saint John Regional Hospital, PO Box 2100, Saint John, NB E2L 4L2.
