Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I., Hilda was predeceased by baby sister Dorothy Mable MacLure, grandson Ryan Wood, brothers-in-law Willard Wood and John Wood, parents Jenny and Jack MacLure. Hilda was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Brookfield, P.E.I., where she met and married Hollis. They moved to Prince George in July of 1949 and in 1970 she became a substitute teacher until her retirement in 2000. Hilda was involved in the Canadian Legion and served on the executive for 10 years. She is survived by her loving husband Hollis T. Wood; sons Gary (Cheryle), Wayne (Clare), Ken (Mary) and Blair (Christy); nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother Sterling (Wilma) MacLure of P.E.I. Visitation to he held Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, 7-8 p.m. at Assman’s Dignity Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1908 Queensway St. Funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 1:30 p.m. at Lakewood Alliance Church, 4001 5th Ave., Prince George, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the PG Hospice Society, 3089 Clapperton St., Prince George, V2L 5N4 or the Poppy Fund of the Royal Canadian Legion #43, 1335 7th Ave., Prince George, V2L 3N9.
