James Harold MacDonald, age 71, of Boularderie Center, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on Jan.12, 1943, at Boularderie Center, he was the son of the late Neil M. and Jessie Anne (MacLeod) MacDonald. Harold was a mechanic and worked at MacAulay’s Garage in Baddeck for 14 years. In 1975, he joined the work force during the construction of the Wreck Cove Hydro plant where he held the position of Transportation Officer for Nova Scotia Power. After completion, he joined the full time staff at the Wreck Cove Plant and was there until his retirement in 1999. He continued to do contract work for Nova Scotia Power for several years after retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Lou (Patterson); his sister, Alice (Robert) Annett, Dartmouth; his brother, Jack MacDonald, Boularderie Center; his sisters-in-law, Carol MacDonald, Sydney Mines, Maude (Lloyd) Bailey, Kuwait; brothers-in-law, Fraser (Valerie) Patterson, Ross Ferry and Tom (Kim) Patterson, Barrie, Ont. Also surviving are his nephews, David, Clayton and Scott MacDonald, Neil Patterson and Andrew Graham and nieces, Michelle (Steven) Sali, Valerie Annett, Michele and Suzanne Bailey, Amy Spurway and Ashley Graham. He is also survived by his special cousin Cathy Ross and her family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Nelson and nephew, Darrell.
Visitation for Harold will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service to be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Knox Presbyterian Church, Ross Ferry with Rev. Peter MacDonald officiating, assisted by Harold’s cousin Margie MacLeod. Burial will follow in MacDonald Cemetery.
