JORGENSON: Mabel Irene age 94 years, passed away on December 10, 2014 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK with her daughters by her side. The Memorial Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from the Abbey United Church with Reverend Salesi Takau officiating. The internment service took place at the Abbey Community Cemetery. Mabel was born on the farm near Verlo, SK to Chris and Mary Hansen. She grew up on the family farm with her eight siblings. She attended elementary classes at Delta School near her home, and completed her grade 12 in Gull Lake, SK. She enrolled at the Normal School in Moose Jaw, SK, graduating in 1940, thus beginning her career as a teacher. She met her husband Raymond while teaching at Flaxhill Rural School north of Lancer, SK, near the Jorgenson family homestead. Mabel and Raymond were married in Medicine Hat, AB on February 6, 1943. After the war, they settled on the farm south of Abbey, SK, where they raised their five children, three daughters and two sons. Upon retiring from farming in 1986, they moved to the town of Abbey where they lived for 13 years. Mabel was involved in many community events and organizations. Curling bonspiels were a highlight, as well as golfing and camping with friends. In 1999 they moved to the Pioneer Manor in Swift Current, SK. Raymond passed away in 2001 and soon after that Mabel moved to Riverview Village Estates, where she was their very first resident. During her years there, she felt safe and happy, and sincerely appreciated the exceptional care and support she received, especially during difficult times. In September 2014, she became ill and had to leave her beloved home. Mabel is predeceased by Raymond, her husband of 58 years; her son Ross and her son Neil and his ex-wife Diane; parents Chris and Mary Hansen; sisters Bertha (Reinhart) Wohlgemuth, Dorothy (Ervin) Lloyd; brothers Barton (Frieda), Irwin (Bernice), Peter (Lil), and Stanley (Audrey); brothers-in-law Al Baumann, Joe Bachmeier, and Lester Jorgenson; and sister-in-law Edna (Archie) Murch. Mabel will be dearly missed by her daughters Patricia (Gary) Down, Donna (Hans) Schubert, and Bonnie (Kevin) Gillies; daughter-in-law Pat Jorgenson; grandchildren Carolyn Down, Lisa Hovdebo, Scott (Kelly) Jorgenson, Stacey Jorgenson, Kelli Jorgenson, Kris (Courteney) Jorgenson, Lauren, Robyn, Cayla and Craig Gillies; great grandchildren Conrad and Samuel Hovdebo, Jaden Lebrun, and Bryden and Kyler Jorgenson; sisters Arlo Baumann and Lida Bachmeier; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a multitude of good friends.
