With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Viola Garland. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014.
She was born in Bucklaw on March 15, 1934, and lived her whole life in Baddeck.
During her married life she was a devoted mother wife and grandmother. After her children were grown she worked in various locations in Baddeck she particularily enjoyed her years with the Sisters of Notre Dame Convent and running a successful bed and breakfast with her husband.
In her later years she enjoyed volunteering with the Margaret MacIvor Unit UCW of Greenwood United Church.
Viola is survived by Mack her loving husband of 60 years; her son David (Donalda); daughters, Freda (Sean) and Donalda (John); brother Ernie (Nellie) and sister Mora, also grandchildren, Joshua (Minju), Jordan (Leah), Nathan, Zachery, Christine, Elesia and Kimberly.
She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Jennie (Finlayson) Nicholson, sisters, Alice, Irene, Della and Ina, brothers, Ian, Clarence and Eric.
We extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at Victoria County Memorial Hospital; Dr. Ritter and his palliative care team; Home Care Nursing staff and Home Care Support Services staff. Everyone of you contributed to enabling Viola to rest comfortably at home. Special thanks is also extended to Brend Nicholson and Patricia Nicholson for their tireless comfort and support to Viola and her family.
Visitation for the late Viola Garland will be held at Greenwood United Church in Baddeck, Dec. 23, 2014, from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be Dec. 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Greenwood United Church, Baddeck with Rev. Allison Etter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria County Hospice Society, PO Box 279 Baddeck, N.S., B0E 1B0.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Funeral Co-operative, Margaree Valley.
