It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother and matriarch, Annie Mae Forrest, on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her large and loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on May 3, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Colin Francis and Annie Mae (Handley) Steele, and wife of the late Edward Forrest.
Our mother was very active with different cancer charities, especially breast cancer events. Mom was the ‘heart of the home’, always there for anyone who came through her doors at any time.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula (John Davis), Patsy (Lenny Cousins), Ann Marie (James McCormick), Eleanor (Bernard Rasmussen); sons, Eddie (Heather), Collie (Charlene), Sheldon (Carolyn) and Blaine (Julie), all of Sydney Mines. She is also survived by two special aunts, Theresa Hewitt, Ontario and Winnie Haley, North Sydney.
Besides her children, she is survived by sisters, Peggy (Martin Evans), Kay (John MacIntyre), Liz (Levi Nippard) and Carolyn (Ernie Brown); brothers, Colin (Darlene), Sandy (Arlene), Eddie (Denise) and Billy (Sherry), brother-in-law Art MacIntyre and sister-in-law Helen Day.
Mae also had 18 beautiful grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mom was also excited by her two new great-grandchildren, about to be born this year to her grandson Ryan, and her granddaughter Emily.
Besides her parents and husband, Mae was predeceased by sisters, Becky MacIntyre and Theresa Basker, and her brother Ron Steele.
At this time the family would like to thank her special friends who helped her along her journey; caregivers, Dr. Ron McCormick, Dr. Andrew Wawer, Palliative Care, VON, Red Cross and staff of 4West.
Mom, you will be missed. We are sure you are happy with your heavenly family.
Visitation for Annie Mae Forrest will be held in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines today (Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
