Fay Horsman
HORSMAN, FAY PATRICIA (DOW) - 1933 - 2014 - Fay Patricia Horsman passed away peacefully at her residence, Lakeview Manor, Riverview, on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Born in Caanan Station, NB, she was the daughter of the late Leonard King and Edith Ethel Sherwood (Warren). Fay Attended the Caanan school until grade 8 and then worked beside her father in the woods where she found great enjoyment from handling her all-time favourite horse, Queen. She would often relate stories to her children and friends of what a “perfect companion” Queen was, stating that she could persuade her to perform difficult tasks when no one else could. Queen would often stick her head through the kitchen window looking for a “treat” and Fay would “sneak her” a piece of molasses covered bread, much to her mother’s chagrin. Fay married Charles Dow in 1951 and together they raised two girls, Brenda and Beverly. She married Doug Horsman in May of 1991 and they resided in Point Park, Riverview, until Fay was admitted to Lakeview Manor in September of 2014. Fay displayed great talent at sketching and painting nature scenes and many of her paintings are treasured possessions of family members. She loved to crotchet and made many throws, dishcloths, and other items that have been in use in the Horsman and Sherwood households for many years. Whilst doing these items, Fay also took the time to crochet more than 100 doggie blankets/pads and delivered them to the Moncton S.P.C.A. so that the “captive creature” could enjoy a measure of comfort and cleanliness whilst subjected to the weather elements in their outdoor kennels. Fay had a gentle nature and was especially devoted to her furry friends which were mostly of the poodle breed. In turn, the dogs adored her and accompanied her wherever she went, including riding in her shopping cart whilst she was foraging through the Salvation Army, Value Village, Daisy Shoppe and House of Nazareth stores in search of something for Doug or another family member. She was very frugal. If, for some reason she appeared at these locations without her beloved companion, the staff would always enquire about their absence. Although possessed of a gentle nature, she was “lion-hearted” and would take anyone to task should she determine that they were abusing an animal in her presence. Most meekly mended their behaviour as a result of her vociferous chidings. Fay was raised in the Baptist faith but became an adherent of the Anglican Church in her later years. A much loved sister and aunt, Fay is survived by her brother, Don; sisters, Betty and June; grandson, Marcus Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Gerald and sisters Mona Mills, Alice Lutes, Jean Boyle and eldest sister Helen Christie. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Lakeview Manor and The Moncton Hospital (Ward 5200) for their compassionate care and kindness to Fay during the time that she resided there. Contributions in Fay’s memory can be made to the local S.P.C.A., any animal charity, Friends of The Moncton Hospital, or any other charity of the donor’s choice.
