Irma Rigby

RIGBY, IRMA JUDITH - Irma Rigby (Redlich) died peacefully on January 1, 2015 in hospital, with her daughters at her side. Irma was born in 1921 in Berlin, to Karola (Muller) and Shimon Redlich. She fled Germany to Palestine (Israel) at the age of 12 and immigrated to her beloved Canada in 1952, residing in Montreal for over 60 years. As a single parent, she provided for her daughters by being the first woman to sell Fuller Brush and became the top salesperson in Canada. Irma made up for her lack of formal education by completing a CEGEP (college) diploma post-retirement and moved to Fredericton in 2007 to be closer to her daughters. Irma was predeceased by infant daughter Karen Beverly. She is survived by Michele (Micky) Rigby (Bruce Gray), Marion Rigby (John Argall) and grandchildren Isaac, Hannah, Samuel and Joel. In her life she was a friend to many and had many friends, especially Joan Kearvell. Irma was well-loved and had an impact on countless people. She always had an opinion, advice to give and words of wisdom to share. She lived a full life and met every challenge fiercely. In her words, “some can dance, we all can spit” – in the eyes of those who knew her, she could do both. The family would like to extend thanks to Meals-on-Wheels, her bridge partners at Stepping Stone Senior Centre and the Capital Winter Club and special thanks to Unitarian fellowships in Pointe Claire and Fredericton.
Donations in lieu of flowers would be welcome to The Unitarian Fellowship or the SPCA. Funeral services will be held at The Unitarian Fellowship of Fredericton, 874 York Street, on Wednesday, January 7 at 2:00 p.m., with Allison Calvern officiating. www.mcadamsfh.com, (506) 458-9170.
