REAGON, VELMA - Velma Virginia (Cosman) Reagon of McAdam, NB died suddenly on January 1, 2015 at the Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. Born February 21, 1934 to the late Millage and Jessie (Smith) Cosman of Mapledale, NB; wife of the late James Reagon of McAdam, Velma is survived by her children, Linda (Allison) Porter of Mapledale, NB, Marcia (Richard) Spence of Marysville, NB, Brenda (Mark) Roberts of Hanwell, NB, Twilla (Laurie Jordan) Reagon of Upper Kingsclear, NB and Perry (Corinne) Reagon of Moncton; her grandchildren Pamela Porter, Carl (Lindsay) Porter, Neil (Cheyenne Gartley) Porter, Bridget (Marc Gagnon) Spence, Carrie (Chris Doiron) Spence and Shawn Roberts; great-grandchildren Rosalyn and Locklan Porter; brothers Albert (Connie Bruce) Cosman, Wilbur (Patricia Henry) Cosman, and sister Gladys (Allison) Hazel; many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Velma is also predeceased by one daughter, Lana Jean Reagon; grandson Christopher Porter; brothers Floyd Cosman, Lewis Cosman, and Walter Cosman; sisters Jean McLaughlin, Elsie Barker, Ella McGitchie and Mildred Hazel. Velma was born in Woodstock, NB and lived in Mapledale, NB until moving to McAdam to attend high school. She graduated in 1952 and married her sweetheart that same year. Velma was a loving wife and mother and took immense pride in her family, with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren bringing her so much joy in her later years. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 7, serving as their Secretary and the Olive Rebekah Lodge #18. Velma was a dedicated bird watcher and gardener, an avid Blue Jays baseball fan and she enjoyed watching hockey and curling. She was a jigsaw and crossword puzzle lover, always enjoying getting new and challenging puzzles. She was a woman of deep faith who believed that faith, family and friends were the most important things in life. She loved music and enjoyed nothing better than being at her family homestead in Mapledale surrounded by extended family, good food and music. She will be greatly missed at Cosman Club 11. The family would like to recognize her faithful friends, Kathleen and Brian Dewitt and her great-nephew Tony Cleghorn for all they have done; your kindnesses have been a special blessing and she loved you all very much. Her long-time friend and neighbor, Marguerite Bright was mom’s pipeline to McAdam; your friendship and concern have brought comfort many times.
A celebration of Velma’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 2 PM at St. Paul’s United Church in McAdam, NB. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday evening January 5 from 6 to 8 PM and on Tuesday afternoon January 6 from noon to 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 7 or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
