Peter Unger

Passed on: January 29th, 2015

UNGER: Peter Cecil Unger of Swift Current, formerly of Morse, age 76 passed away December 29, 2014 at the Cypress Regional Hospital.
Peter and twin sister Margaret, were born October 14, 1938 in the RM of Shamrock. They were the final addition to a family of five older brothers and one older sister. When Peter was four months old the family moved to the homestead in the RM of Morse where he lived and farmed most of his life.
Peter attended the one room school houses of Yorkshire and Charlotte. Later he attended the Herbert Bible School. Peter married Klara Wilms on April 1, 1972 at Zion Lutheran Church at Flowing Well. They had three children; Heidi, Andrew, and Aaron. Peter loved the land and was a proud farmer. He had many roles in the community and diverse interests. He drove school bus and was councillor and Reeve for the RM of Morse. Peter enjoyed metal work, old tractors, working with cattle, watching rodeo, playing and coaching baseball, jigsaw puzzles, games, and travelling to Germany. Peter had a strong Christian faith and always kept God at the centre of his life. In the church he was an active council member and confirmation teacher. Later in his life, his grandchildren brought a smile to his face and a sparkle to his eye.
Peter will be greatly missed by many. We look forward with sure and certain hope of being reunited with him in heaven. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Klara; daughter Heidi (Cameron) Laing and their children Rebecca, Allison, Robert, and Colin; son Andrew (Loretta) Unger and their children Seth and Tate; and son Aaron Unger and special friend Steffa MacLintock. He also leaves to mourn his brother John (Mary) Unger; twin sister Margaret (Vic) Rempel; sisters in law Alvina Unger, Elsie Unger, Laura Hanson, Sara Unger, and Elfriede (Vic) Fisher. He was a much loved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
We rejoice that Peter has joined those who predeceased him: his parents John and Margaret Unger; sister Mary (Abe) Loewen; and brothers Henry, Jake, Ed, and Abe.
The Memorial Service was held January 3, 2015 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Swift Current, officiated by Pastor Greg Kiel.
