Hazel Elton age 86 years of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and formerly of the Simmie, Saskatchewan District passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre.
Hazel was born on the family farm in the Simmie District on March 9, 1928, the oldest and only daughter of Harold and Sina Knutson.
She worked in Regina, Saskatchewan and New Westminster, British Columbia and then moved to Calgary where she worked at a Provincial Lab as a Medical Stenographer.
In 1952 she married Lorne Elton in Calgary and in 1960 they moved to Simmie to farm. They had two boys, Trent and Lorace.
Hazel worked at the Simmie Credit Union for 17 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Simmie and also held a position on the board; she served also on the Simmie Rec Board, Simmie Curling Club and had the enjoyment of working on the Simmie & District History Book Club. Other interests were crocheting, sewing, and attending many curling tournaments and bridge tournaments.
She leaves behind her son Trent (Maureen) and grandchildren Candice and Josef; her son Lorace (Shannon) and grandchildren Kourtney and Caitlyn; her brother Marvin Knutson of Swift Current, Saskatchewan; her sisters-in-law Cora Knutson of Bentley, Alberta and Louise Knutson as well as by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Lorne Elton in 2003, her mother Sina Knutson in 1980, her father Harold Knutson in 1994, her brothers Carl in 1927, Kenneth in 1934, Edgar in 1996, Cliff in 2013 and her dearest friend Bernice Larson.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at Salem Lutheran Church in Shaunavon on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Joy Frenette officiating. Interment of her cremated remains will take place at Scotsguard Lutheran Cemetery at Scotsguard at a later date. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
