With great sorrow and sadness, we wish to share that our mother has succumbed to cancer at home in Gibsons, B.C.
Born in Grand Prairie, Alberta, and later moving with her family to Abbotsford, B.C., Irene met her future husband Dick in high school. Mom graduated, they married and the two of them started their family.
In 1952, Mom, Dad and Ricky moved to Masset, B.C. Mom went to work at the local cannery. She loved to bowl, do crosswords, play bingo and was on a softball team in those early years. She kept busy during the 15 years in Masset raising five children (Rick, Gene, Brenda, Brent and Randy) with her husband.
In 1967, the whole family picked up and moved to Gibsons, B.C., where Mom went to work at the Motor Vehicle and Village of Gibsons offices until retirement.
Mom loved her trips to the casino with daughter Brenda and daughter-in-law Verna. She loved her family.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Richard (Dick), son Gene and most recently, her daughter Brenda.
Left to mourn Mom’s passing are her sons Rick (Kathleen), Brent (Verna) and Randy (Michelle); siblings Don (Dorothy) and Carolyn (Jim); grandchildren Jodi, Christopher, Laena, Robert, David, Michael, Jennifer, Andrew, Mikayla and Kimberly; great-grandchildren Trevor, Nicole, Nathan, Mathew, Nicholas, Brandon, Wyatt, Sawyer and Tucker; plus many other family members and friends.
We would like to thank the home care workers and Dr. Stinson and Dr. Lehmann for all their care.
A very special thank you to Verna for the tender and loving care she gave our mother in her last few months.
Mother, we love you. You and your sarcastic humour will be missed and never forgotten.
There will be a small service for family and friends at Devlin Funeral Home on Saturday, January 24 at 1pm.
