It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Liam Joseph MacIntyre on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a long illness. He died peacefully surrounded by his family members.
Born in Sydney Mines on September 21, 1947, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Genevieve (Fyfe) MacIntyre.
As a lifelong resident of Sydney Mines, Liam was well-known around the Northside and in the Sydney area. Liam taught math at Riverview Rural High School in Coxheath for more than 20 years. He spent the final 10 (approx.) years of his teaching career as school administrator: Vice-Principal at MacLennan Junior High School in Westmount and Principal at Sydney Mines Junior High School. He was an avid bowler, a coach of his son’s little league baseball team, an active KOC member, and a parishioner of Immaculate Conception parish in Sydney Mines. He will be remembered as a man who loved to watch Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Boston Red Sox games, going for walks, listening to Celtic music, family vacations, chatting with his kids and his buddies, and his monthly lunch outings with his retired co-worker friends from Riverview High.
Liam is survived by his wife Mary Linda (MacDonald); his four kids: Kathleen, Genevieve, John (Wendy), and Donnie; nephews Paul MacIntyre and Glen MacIntyre, and niece Jennifer (MacIntyre) Wiley.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his older brother Ian.
In honouring Liam’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Donations in Liam’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
