It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our son, Devon William Gilbert. Residing in Bras d'Or, Devon was born and raised in Port Hawkesbury, N.S. He was a loving son, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to many. Devon was a grade 12 student enrolled in the heavy-duty mechanics program at Memorial High School. He was an avid moto-cross racer, guitar player, and loved spending his summers camping with his Lake Ainslie family. He enjoyed nothing more than tinkering around in the barn with his dad working on his 'civ bomb'. And could also be heard often reminiscing about the love of his mom's homemade apple pie. No matter how brief the encounter, Devon made a lasting impression on people with his infectious smile and laugh.
He is survived by his loving father, Billy (Sheri Jessome) Gilbert; sisters, Kristan and Emmery. His loving mother, Denise (KC Pelrine) and brother, Uriah. His grandparents, Roy and Judy Gilbert and Dennis and Karen McNamara. He will be missed by all his aunts, uncles and cousins including Clayton and Dylan, with whom he shared a special bond. He will be missed greatly by all his extended families, the Macdonalds, the Jessomes, the Pelrines the Boudreaus and the Embrees.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Greens Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29th in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. From there the remains will be transferred to St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church in Bras d'Or where visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 from 11 a.m.-1p.m. and 2-4 p.m., from where a memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. with Fr. Peter MacLeod officiating. Burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Loch Lomand Moto-Cross Trust.
