It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Paul Joseph Poirier, at his home in Whitney Pier, on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015.
Born in Cheticamp, Paul was the son of the late Philip and Mary Louise (Deveaux) Poirier.
Paul had worked at the CBRM Water Utility until forced into early retirement, due to illness. He enjoyed camping, playing Tarabish, swimming, and especially watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren return home to visit whenever possible.
Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice (Dye). Dearest father of Paulette (Brian) Timmons, Sydney Forks, Clara (late Joseph) Tomiczek, Brantford, Ont., Trenia (Scott) Brophey, Windsor, Ont., Clement and Philip, Edmonton, Alta., Cordell, Brantford, Ont., and Mark (Jody), Sydney, and beloved grandfather of Clarisse (Dan) Berardicurti, Alicsa (Richard) Timmons, Susan (Jason) Ross, Paula (Michael) Simon, Kevin and Kyle Brophey, Stacey and Paul Tomiczek, Cori and Christopher Hemmings, Kayla Poirier and Dallas Brophey. Treasured great-grandfather of Brooke, Ethan, Evany, Aubrie, Mia, Zachary, Faith, Hope and Noah. Paul is also survived by sisters, Mary Elizabeth (Ralph) Parsons, Mary Evelyne (Billy) Wells, Mary (late Murdock) Hickey, Audrey (Ernest) Ranni and Anne (late Byron) Harris; and brothers, Charles (Janet), Bernard (Linda), Gordon (Judy) and Eugene (Diane) Dye; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Fredrick and Bernadette Dye, brothers, Bernard and Gerald Poirier, and sister, Mary Elda Chivari.
Visitation for the late Paul Joseph Poirier will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass, reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
The family gives a special thank you to the City Homemakers for their kind care of Paul during his time of illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
