TRACEY LEWIS HORSMAN

TRACEY LEWIS HORSMAN

Tracey Lewis Horsman, 58, of Sechelt, died suddenly on January 12, 2015 while mountain-biking his beloved Sunshine Coast.
Tracey was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Alice and Les Horsman (and his brother Peter) in 1956. After completing his studies at Elphinstone High School, Tracey graduated from BCIT as a helicopter engineer in 1977. In 1993, Tracey and Linda were married in Sechelt; their son Kyle — joy of joys — was born the following year.
Tracey’s professional and personal life was informed and energized by his characteristic intelligence, wit, enthusiasm and passion. Professionally, he specialized in large helicopter work; his training, his exceptional ability and his determination regardless of context enabled Tracey to travel the world. These experiences complemented his familiar North American knowledge with wisdom and appreciation acquired in locations such as: Australia, New Guinea, India, Russia, Africa, Taiwan and Peru. Tracey’s participation as one of five crew members in the only Canadian helicopter assigned to fly disaster assistance to earthquake survivors in Pakistan following the 2005 earthquake exemplifies at its finest the importance of his work.
Tracey’s personal life was similarly enriched by his quality of character. With Linda and Kyle, Tracey enjoyed outdoor activities whenever possible. He was a lover and maker of music. His technical skill as an engineer enabled Tracey’s accomplishment of “improvement projects” that not only refined their living (and sporting) spaces but demonstrated, with profound attention and care, his love for his family. Most notably, and despite the demands on his time from many quarters, Tracey liked nothing more than joining Linda to watch (and armchair coach) their son Kyle play hockey — he never missed a game.
The reach of Tracey’s caring and generosity extended well beyond the nuclear unit. The support he provided over the years to his mother, his aunt, his brother and his friends was — without exaggeration — remarkably boundless. As in Tracey’s professional life, he ensured positive endings for those around him regardless of any obstacles. With regard to his legacy, the proverb that one is remembered by their actions rather than their intentions will undoubtedly come quickly to many minds.
Predeceased by his father, Tracey is survived by his wife Linda, his son Kyle, his mother Alice, his brother Peter and extended family and friends around the world.
A recognition and celebration of Tracey’s life will be held later in the year.
The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the EMS and medical personnel who attended to Tracey, as well as to family and friends for their generous support.
He left us too soon and will be sorely missed — in his son’s words “never forgotten” and his mother’s: “When the Lord loaned us Tracey, we were truly blessed.”
