McELWAIN, ALTON AMBER
Alton A. McElwain of Hartfield, NB passed away February 3, 2015 at the Upper River Valley Hospital. Alton was born at Temperance Vale, NB in 1927, a son of the late Russell and Jean (Baylis) McElwain.
Alton worked in the woods of New Brunswick, the nickle mines of Ontario, Lane Construction, potato industry and Chev auto parts at Northern Sales and Service in Caribou, ME and Clark’s Chev in Fredericton, NB. Alton married Verna Bernice (Moorcroft) on October 16, 1946. Alton was a member of the Nackawic Baptist Church. He loved his wife, his boys, his grandchildren and his Lord. Alton enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Verna; two sons, David McElwain (Karen), Cape Neddick, Maine and Robert McElwain (Maia), Sebring, Florida; five grandchildren, Amber Bergeron (Erik), Cole McElwain, Mackenzie McElwain, Evan McElwain and Paige McElwain; one great-grandson, Jakob Bergeron; a brother, Lynn McElwain (Miriam), Woodstock, NB; several sisters and brothers-in-law in the Moorcroft family as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step-mother, Leola McElwain; two brothers, Earl and Arden McElwain.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 12 noon until 2 pm. Funeral service will then be held at 2 pm from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ralph Irving officiating. A reception will immediately follow. Interment will be later at Otis Cemetery.
