It is with great sadness that we, the family of Kaye Harris, Sydney Mines, announce her passing at the age of 67. Kaye passed away peacefully in the palliative care unit at the Northside General Hospital on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney Mines, Kaye was the daughter of the late Bernard D. Gillis and Elizabeth M. Young.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parrish, Sydney Mines. She worked at Leonard’s Fishplant for several years and later at Sydney Homemakers where she enjoyed and excelled at helping others until retirement.
She is survived by one daughter, Raylene Harris (Ontario) and three sons Donnie Harris (Ontario), Troy (Sherry) Harris (Georges River), Keith Harris (British Columbia); sisters, Arlene Lyle (North Sydney), Margaret (Wayne) Young (Ontario), brothers; John (Ethel) Gillis, and Bernie Gillis (Sydney Mines).
Kaye is also survived by three grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Darren Harris, Mitchel Harris, Julia Harris and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was surrounded by the love of family and friends Linda and Leonard Gouthro, and Sharon (MacDonald) MacLeod.
In accordance with Kaye’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J M Jobes Funeral Home. A mass to celebrate Kaye’s life will be held Tuesday February 17th at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines with Fr.Thomas John officiating.
Donations in Kaye’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society of Nova Scotia.
