Beryl Catherine Barnett Robertson died at Victoria County Memorial Hospital Saturday February 7, 2015. She was 77 years old.
Beryl was born in Welland, Ontario on October 1, 1937 to Winifred and James Barnett.
She graduated from Riverview Rural High School in 1956 and graduate from City of Sydney School of Nursing in 1959. She married Arthur Andrews Robertson in 1959 and together they had two children Leigh Anne and Kelly. Art and Beryl spent 55 years together. During the early years she worked as a nurse in Gander Newfoundland, after moving to North Bay Ontario they started their family. In 1966 Art and Beryl moved to Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. During her years in Port Hawkesbury she was a crusader for many causes. For nine years she was the director of the Regional Occupational Center, Port Hawkesbury. Upon moving to Valley Mills, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia she was a very active volunteer in the L’ arche community. In both Port Hawkesbury (Holy Trinity Anglican Church) and River Denys (Forbes United Church) she was an active lay reader. In 2010 at the Dartmouth Natal Day Race she participated in her first road race at the age of 72, winning first place in her age group. She enjoyed weaving with her friends and doing any type of craft. She enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her many gardens surrounding her home. In later years she enjoyed the tranquility of kayaking.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother David.
She is survived by her husband Art Robertson; her daughters Leigh Anne Meek (Louisiana) and Kelly Bouman (Port Hawkesbury); sons-in-law Terry Meek and Rolf Bouman; two grandchildren Lucas Bouman, Alyssa Bouman. She is also survived by her brother Gilbert and his wife Sue of Welland, Ontario; sister Alice of Halifax, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
